Understanding SCIS records
In this one-hour introductory webinar, SCIS will provide an overview of SCIS records. We will discuss how the different aspects of cataloguing enhance resource discoverability, and how SCIS Data can be used to support your staff and students. Useful for school library staff that are not trained in cataloguing or would like a refresher on cataloguing, this webinar will help get you started on understanding the basics of SCIS records and how they can support effective search strategies for students.

- Anatomy of a SCIS record
- Enhanced content and curating collections (cover images)
- Subject cataloguing and the importance of the subject search
- How authority files enhance discoverability
- The difference between Dewey and call numbers
- Consistent series and genre headings
The webinar runs for 45 minutes, and at the webinar’s conclusion, Renate Beilharz will be available for 15 minutes to respond to specific questions from participants.
