Webinar: Understanding Subject Headings in SCIS

In this 1-hour webinar, SCIS will provide an overview of SCIS Subject Headings (SCISSH) and School Online Thesaurus (ScOT) in SCIS records. Useful for school library staff that are not trained in cataloguing or would like a refresher on subject headings, this webinar will help you understand role controlled vocabularies play in effective information retrieval.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Why use controlled vocabularies?
  • Accessing and understanding the SCISSH standard
  • Accessing and understanding ScOT
  • Subject analysis of resources
  • The difference between SCISSHL and ScOT in a record

The webinar runs for 45 minutes, and at the webinar’s conclusion, Renate Beilharz will be available for 15 minutes to respond to specific questions from participants.

A recording of the webinar will be emailed to all registered participants after it has been held.
